Psalms Walk-Thru #010

“Jehovah is my Shepherd; I shall not want.”  Psalms 23:1

Indeed!  Can those of us who truly know the Lord understand the treasures that are contained herein?

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”  Psalms 119:105b

“I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in everything I am taught both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to lack.”  Philippians 4:12

“He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me to waters of rest.”  Psalms 23:2

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”  Proverbs 3:6

“He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness because of His great name.”  Psalms 23:3

Just how many times do we get discouraged about one thing or another, but God restores our soul.  While we often say and will continue to say, trust and obey, let’s not forget the words of that good song.

‘For the favor He shows, and the joy He bestows

Are for them who will trust and obey’

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”  Psalms 23:4

Silly thought, perhaps, but I certainly have come to understand these words, they are quite personal for our family, yet I have often thought what it would be like if God called me to preach in a heavily crime ridden neighborhood.  Walking down the street, knowing that He could be trusted, that His work must be done and things will only happen according to His will, the greatest of such things that a Believer is able to experience, which words could fully describe such joy?

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.”  Psalms 23:5

Truly, in the same sense as the prior verse, God is in control and as Believers we should never forget that.  Our lives are in His hands and He will do what He has purposed to do.  Certainly we can be richly blessed in even otherwise destitute situations.

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah forever.”  Psalms 23:6

As Believers we know that our Home is not here.  Our citizenship is in Heaven (Phil. 3:20) and we will go to be with the Lord Jesus forever (1st Thes. 4:17).  Let us never forget that and let us live accordingly!

“Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, of what sort ought you to be in holy behavior and godliness, looking for and earnestly hastening unto the coming of the Day of God, through which the heavens will be dissolved, being set on fire, and the elements will melt with intense burning?  Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.  Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and without blemish; and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the unlearned and unstable twist, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.  You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware also that you not be led away with the error of the wicked, and fall from your own steadfastness.  But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”  2nd Peter 3:11-18

Amen!
