Trust & Obey

Trust & Obey

  1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey

  2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey

  3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey

  4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor He shows, and the joy He bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey

  5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey

Chorus:

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Let it not be! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were immersed into Christ Jesus were immersed into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through immersion into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be nullified, that we should no longer serve sin.” Romans 6:1-6

If you are a true Believer, one who has believed into Christ, one who accepted the gift of Salvation through repentance and faith, then how should you now live?

“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” Romans 6:16

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity unto the obedience of Christ, and being ready to avenge all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”             2nd Corinthians 10:4-6

” And he took the Book of the Covenant and read in the ears of the people. And they said, All that Jehovah has spoken we will do and obey.” Exodus 24:7

As a Christian, what is expected of you?

“Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39

One of the biggest problems that American christianity has, and indeed much of the world, is flocks and flocks of those who proclaim to be Saved but are not.

“You will know them from their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree produces excellent fruit, but a corrupt tree produces evil fruit. A good tree is not able to produce evil fruit, nor is a corrupt tree able to produce excellent fruit. Every tree that does not produce excellent fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore from their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many works of power in Your name? And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who work out lawlessness!” Matthew 7:16-23

How many are there out there who will tell you that they are Saved, but yet have no change in their life, from their heart? While I used to hear it more often than before, still nowadays if you ask people they will often tell you that they were Saved at a church years ago during such and such a time. And since then, what have they done for Christ?

The real question here and this may very well also be the real question for you, dear reader, is ARE YOU SURE?

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2nd Corinthians 5:17

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a grain measure, but on a lampstand, and it shines for all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, so that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

“For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.” 1st Corinthians 2:16

“Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” 1st Corinthians 4:2

If you are not living for Christ than how do you know you are Saved? If you are not in Him, obeying Him, loving Him, following Him, then what are you doing?

“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know, yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you; unless indeed you are ones failing the test?”

2nd Corinthians 13:5

While it is possible to be a Christian and be carnal (1st Corinthians 3:1-3) there should also be evidence in one’s heart that they were either Saved or not.

When did you get Saved? Do you recall? If so, how? Salvation truly is a matter of the heart, yet it includes:

A.) Repentance

“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord…” Acts 3:19

“Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent…” Acts 17:30

“I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3

B.) Believing that Jesus was God in the flesh, died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead.

…” that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10

“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised the third day according to the Scriptures” 1st Corinthians 15:3-4

“Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was accounted to him, but also for us, to whom it shall be accounted, believing in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.” Romans 4:23-25

C.) Accepting Jesus as your Savior.

“For everyone, whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that everyone believing into Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

No one will ever be forced into making this decision, it is something that God allows free will over, we each individually have the choice of whether to serve God or not. Yet if someone thinks that they are Saved because they repeated a few words in a church at some point in their life, with no change in their lives, no true repentance, not truly believing, then what? Simple, they are not saved, they are still lost.

Much more, not only are they lost, they are deceived into thinking that they will go to Heaven when they die, rather they will go to hell. Now this isn’t so great of a thing to see, is it?

There are over a billion catholics in the world. These people are taught Salvation through unbiblical means and as a whole are destined to hell, never having been Saved. Yet the catholic church confirms them, those who follow such things are told that their imperfections (sins) will simply relate to a longer time in purgatory (with NO standing whatsoever in the Holy Scriptures). So over a billion people are following this religion that is false. So how hard is it to believe that great error has also swept into and throughout the so-called protestant churches in America? Yes this includes Baptist!

Dear reader, understand that it is imperative for you to look at your heart. You must contemplate whether or not you really gave your life to Jesus. You must, no matter what position you might hold or how it could effect your pride, in all humility examine yourself. If you don’t know, what will you say to God when you stand before Him and He declares:

“And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who work out lawlessness!” Matthew 7:23
