Nothing New Under the Sun

“That which has been is that which shall be; and that which has been done is that which shall be done; and there is nothing new under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 1:9

Recently on Memorial Day I was pondering what is happening in this country and watching as the evil is seemingly taking over. A friend of mine sent me a reply reminding me that America was never a Christian nation back in the 1950’s and older pictures of women in that era have the same sort of inappropriate poses that modern women due, just that they are dressed more. He also threw in how Solomon had already married an Egyptian woman at the time he was dedicating the new Temple to Jehovah. I pondered these things and saw valid points, knowing that America was never a Christian nation, but I thought that surely the world is getting worse.

“But evil men and pretenders will grow worse and worse, leading astray and being led astray.” 2nd Timothy 3:13

“But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” Matthew 24:37

Around America it seems as if this year God is judging the nation more so than in recent past, the weather is quite unusual and even meteorologist are trying to figure out why it is so severe, their main argument points to global warming, a doctrine that I find to be fanciful and imaginative. I ponder the decision from the Supreme Court regarding sodomite marriage. Remember much of the world will take note and follow what the United States does. Are things truly are getting worse or are people just being more open and rebellious towards God?

A couple of days after firing off a reply to my friend I was finishing my personal reading in Judges and came across some verses that I have been pondering since then. A realization hit me, think people are bad now? They certainly can be AND HAVE BEEN much worse. These verses that stuck out to me were the following:

“Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, certain men of the city, sons of wickedness surrounded the house and beat on the door. They spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring out the man who has come to your house, that we may know him. And the man, the master of the house, went out to them and said to them, No, my brethren! I beg you, do not act so wickedly! Seeing this man has come into my house, do not do this disgraceful folly. Behold, here is my virgin daughter and his concubine; let me bring them out now. Humble them, and do with them whatever seems good to your eyes; but to this man do not do such a disgraceful thing! But the men would not heed him. So the man took his concubine and brought her out to them. And they knew her and abused her wantonly all night until morning; and when the day began to break, they let her go. Then the woman came as the day was dawning, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her master was, till it was light. And when her master arose in the morning, and opened the doors of the house and went out to go his way, behold the woman, his concubine, fallen at the door of the house with her hands on the threshold. And he said to her, Get up and let us be going. But there was no answer. So the man lifted her onto the donkey; and the man rose up and went to his place. And when he entered his house he took a knife, laid hold of his concubine, and divided her into twelve pieces with her bones, and sent her throughout all the territory of Israel.” Judges 19:22-30

AND:

“In those days there was no king in Israel. Every man did what was right in his own eyes.” Judges 21:25

How many years had passed since Joshua’s death? Already you have this city in Israel that is behaving as Sodom and Gomorrah, out of control, literally committing despicable acts AND without excuse as to know why they reside where they do, they are God’s people and they know that they had been saved out of Egypt with His strong hand. Yet these people pay no regard to God, but do whatever is right in their own eyes, much like today. What about the Levites, are they not reminding the people to serve Jehovah? Much like pastors out to shepherd Christ’s flock to keep them safe and sound.

As bad as things are in this country and yes they are getting worse and worse, if one thinks carefully about Israel’s history and how they would go and serve the Baals and other pagan deities, with no regard to their Maker, it just testifies that the heart of men do not seek after the Most High. They are born in sin, live their life in sin and refuse to heed God due to their sin. Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price for mankind’s sin offering them forgiveness, a renewed mind, a personal relationship and eternal life; yet their hearts are stubborn and wicked, refusing to cede from doing evil.

Are you going to be stubborn to the end and not heed God’s warning in His Word or are you going to repent of your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior? Time is running out and each man is not guaranteed a breath beyond the one that he is breathing right now. Ponder your path and really consider, it is not too late as you are reading this, you can still accept God’s free gift of Salvation.

“For He says: In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” 2nd Corinthians 6:2

“See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from the One speaking from Heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.” Hebrews 12:25-26

Amen!
