No More Numbers

“And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”  Matthew 25:46

“And the devil, who led them astray, was cast into the Lake of Fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.  And I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heavens fled away. And there was found no place for them.  And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God. And books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, out of the things which were written in the books.  And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one, according to their works.  And Death and Hades were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death.  And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire.”  Revelation 20:10-15

In the mind of a youth, the question arises as to what the highest number is.  From my understanding there are those who like to find time to create even higher numbers, so that there is no end to them.  Yet, until they create a higher number, there are no more numbers.

For a practical purpose, yet impractical in the usage sense, let’s take a look at a decillion.  A decillion is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.  The reason that in a practical sense, there are generally no more numbers, is there is no reason to even use such a high number.  If you start to get to the googolplex, of what mathematical purpose would that number serve?

Right now the average man lives about 25,915 days (71 years x 365).  In reality, when compared to these larger numbers, it is nothing in comparison.  Yet, there is a hereafter, there is an afterlife, the Bible says:

“And as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, without sin, unto salvation.”  Hebrews 9:27-28

“And many of those sleeping in the earth’s dust shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproach and everlasting abhorrence.”  Daniel 12:2

So what the Bible teaches is that a man will live eternally, whether it is on the New Earth (Rev. 21:1) or in the Lake of Fire (Rev. 20:15), depends on whether or not one’s name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Rev. 21:27)

Taking a brief look at a decillion years, we would get the following number of days of each man’s eternal state: 3.65e+35!  On this earth, that God has Created for us to use (Gen. 1:28), there is a limitation to the resources, God didn’t create this planet to last for trillions of years (Is. 24:6).  In fact most scientist say that the sun will burn out in about 5 billion years.  Though what seems like an eternity away and of no point for our generation to be concerned about such things, this is far less than the reality of our eternal destination.

You, yes you dear reader, will still be around in 5 billion years.  In fact you will still be around in a googolplex and then afterwards there will be a necessity to continue on with numbers and there will always be more numbers, because there must be, due to the fact that eternity doesn’t have an end.  One could argue not having a necessity for more numbers and simply allowing eternity to be an infinite number, but the point is, the total number of days, as measured currently, would be endless and if the calculation of such was thought to be derived, new numbers would have to created eventually in order to properly calculate the length of time, essentially there would be no end to numbers.

Right now there is no point to continue on creating numbers, perhaps interesting to some, those numbers are of no practical use, as there is no necessity to have such a high number for any reason.  However, in regards to eternity and man’s ultimate destination, such numbers could theoretically be useful.

So why exactly would one take this life in vain, ignoring God who Created them (Gen. 1:27), ignoring the free gift of Salvation (Ro. 5:15), through Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12), who died on the Cross for our sins (1 Pet. 2:24) and rose again from the dead (Ro. 10:9)?  Why would one not live for Him who Created them anyway (Phil. 1:21)?  Why would one chose this world and the sin (Heb. 11:25) that is in their individual lives over the great mercy and abundant riches that are found in Christ (Eph. 3:8)?

I don’t know about you, but I am very thankful for God having provided Salvation (Ro. 5:8)!  While I am undeserving of such a great and free gift, understand that so are you.  Yet, this free gift awaits you as well, should you so chose to accept it.  Eventually the time will come when it will be too late.  Do you want to have an eternity to regret and consider your decision, without ever being able to have an opportunity to rectify it?

He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.  And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to what his work shall be.  I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, the First and the Last.  Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the Tree of Life, and may enter through the gates into the city.  But outside are dogs and sorcerers and prostitutes and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and produces a lie.  I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify these things to you, to the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him who hears say, Come. And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take of the Water of Life freely.”  Revelation 22:11-17

Right now you have an opportunity.  If you are reading this, you are still breathing, then it is not too late.  Your eternal destination is not yet sealed, do not allow yourself to continue going on in this life without considering very diligently the things of God.  This life is short, in comparison to eternity, it is but one blink of the eye.

The other night on the way home, I pulled over in a very rural area of northeast Michigan to show my son on a clear night the galaxies and the innumerable amount of stars.  Just as the sand of the sea can not be measured, nor the number of stars (Jer. 33:22), so too there is no number to the amount of time that each one of us will live in eternity.  Consider and do not take it lightly!

He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.  Great is our Lord, and of great power; His understanding is infinite.”  Psalms 147:4-5

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.  For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”  Mark 8:35-37

Would you sell your eye site for a billion dollars?  Would you sell you hearing for a billion of dollars?  Would you refuse to repent and by faith believe into Jesus as your Lord and Savior (Acts 20:21), choosing your sin over Him?  His riches are eternal and above any measurement.

“And He shall judge the world in righteousness; He shall execute judgment to the people with equity.”  Psalms 9:8

Amen!
